Old Testament - Hebrew word “Leviathan” (Strong’s h3882)
Perhaps an extinct dinosaur. Plesiosaurus, exact meaning unknown. Leviathan, sea monster, dragon. Some translators think this is a crocodile but from the description in Job 41:1-34 this is patently absurd. It appears to be a large fire-breathing animal of some sort. (Just as the bomardier beetle has an explosion producing mechanism, so the great sea dragon may have an explosive producing mechanism to enable it to be a real fire-breathing dragon.) Perhaps an extinct dinosaur. A Diplodocus or Brachiosaurus, exact meaning unknown. Some newer Bibles translate the word as elephant or hippopotamus but from the description in Job 40:15-24, this is silly.
Job 40:15-24, “Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you; He eats grass like an ox. 16 See now, his strength is in his hips, and his power is in his stomach muscles. 17 He moves his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. 18 His bones are like beams of bronze, His ribs like bars of iron. 19 He is the first of the ways of God; only He who made him can bring near His sword. 20 Surely the mountains yield food for him, and all the beasts of the field play there. 21 He lies under the lotus trees, in a covert of reeds and marsh. 22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him. 23 Indeed the river may rage, yet he is not disturbed; he is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth, 24 Though he takes it in his eyes, or one pierces his nose with a snare.” (NKJV, italics added)

• What Day in the Genesis Creation Week were Dinosaurs created?
Genesis 1:20-23 - Creation Day 5 - Sea creatures (like a Leviathan) and flying creatures (like a Pterodactyl) were created. Genesis 1:24-31 - Creation Day 6 - Land animals (like a Behemoth) and Man were created.
• Is there evidence that Man and Dinosaurs lived together? In Genesis - Creation Day Six - man was created along with “land” dinosaurs. Sea and Air were the day before. Later in Genesis when God brought all the “land” animals (must have included “land” dinosaurs) to Noah to stay with him and his family for a year in the Ark. And later in Job we read about Leviathan (sea) and Behemoth (land), which God points out to Job in their conversation.
• Is there evidence outside the Bible?
(If someone asks this question, we should ask them, “Don’t you trust God’s word?”). Yes, there are historical accounts of people seeing and killing “Dragons” - cave drawings (petroglyphs), carvings and other artwork depicting Dinosaurs. (Ex: Bishop Bell engravings 1496.) A good resource to answer this question is the book; “Untold Secrets of Planet Earth - Dire Dragons.”

• What happened to the Dinosaurs?
The Bible says that those animals with the “breath of life” in them, that were not in the Ark, that could not swim, died. (Genesis 7:21-23). Some of those that could swim, might have survived, and might even be alive today (Loch Ness, etc.). Those that were in the Ark, and lived among man after, might have been hunted, but certainly were seen (based on historical accounts (by Marco Polo and others), drawings, and other artwork. Note: Soft Tissue (and blood) found in Dinosaur Bones indicates that they can't be millions of years old (as some people claim) because soft tissue and blood don’t last that long.
• How do Dinosaurs fit into the Big Picture of History?
They are part of the Creation and Catastrophe (Flood). Dinosaurs (and their destruction) can remind us that although God judged the world in a Global Flood, He made a way that we can be forgiven in Christ. However there is another Judgment Day coming - spoken of in Revelation. Those who have broken God’s laws (and not been forgiven) will be found guilty on that day. Guilty people do not go to Heaven (but the forgiven can). Were do we want to spend the life to come after this one - with God or far, far away from Him?
